chevron is agreeing to pay millions of dollars in fines following allegations of pollution laws. pete joins us from the refinery with how it could impact the folks that live in that area. good morning, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. this is going to effectively resolve some investigations into chevron, including that refinery fire that took place right here in richmond back in 2012. we'll jump into the agreement details we're getting from federal officials. this is coming from the u.s. department of justice. it says chevron will pay roughly a $3 million fine just over $160 million they'll spend over $160 on environmental improvements to its refineries, including right here in richmond. when it comes to that fine, it will resolve some regulatory investigations that were for chevron in four states, including right here in richmond, including that 2012 richmond refinery fire that if folks remember, evacuated roughly 14,000 residents in the area. i want to point out that in 2013, chevron did pay $2 million in fines for folks affected in that 2012 fire. also when
